Planting and Big Ideas!

The garden project here at Kanapaha is really starting to get moving. We give special thanks to our master gardeners, Susan and Greg, for all of their support and expert advice!

So far this year, we have accomplished a lot:

1. Planted and harvested food for a Fall and Winter season.
2. Had our first Farmer's Market, and are planning our second!
3. Made a partnership with the Cooperative Extension, and have received the assistance of the Master Gardener program.
4. Enriched our soil with 10 yards of compost with 50% peanut shell, 50% cow manure.
5. Have maintained weekly meetings where the garden is maintained and future projects are planned.
6. Had 3 cooking classes, and made salads (both fresh greens and broccoli), and collard greens!

Here's what's coming up:
  • Farmer's Market & potato planting: Wednesday, February 9th
  • Next Saturday workday: March 12th
  • Coyote Howl - We'll be needing volunteers to help with the garden club table!
In addition, Ms. Boyagian and Ms. Byrd will be attending the Grow Gainesville meeting - a new gardening initiative in our city aimed at supporting community and school gardens like ours! We encourage students and parents alike to attend! It will take place on Sunday, February 13th at 3pm at the Highlands Presbyterian Church.

Keep it green -
Ms. B
